Brenda Shockley Brenda Shockley is President of Community Build, Inc., a California nonprofit community development corporation organized in response to the conditions which led to the civil disturbance of April, 1992. She is the past President and Vice-President for Finance and Administration/Operations of the Drew Economic Development Corporation (Drew EDC) and the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (Drew University), respectively, in Los Angeles. Ms. Shockley organized Drew EDC to foster the concurrent development of Drew University and the surrounding community, to stimulate growth in housing, business and employment training. As President of Drew EDC she coordinated minority participation in University construction projects, and developed 48-unit housing development designed to serve the needs of single-parent families. As Vice-President for Finance Administration/Operations at Drew University, she managed an operating budget of over $28 million and supervised a capital project of over $6 million. Before Drew, she was a partner in a private law practice, an assistant to Congresswoman Yvonne Brathwaite Burke, a consultant to the Assembly Committee on Criminal Justice, and a Deputy City Attorney in the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office. Ms. Shockley is a board member of the National Economic Development Law Center, the Kazi House Residential Drug Treatment Center, the Avalon Carver Neighborhood Center and the Drew Child Development Corporation. She is a graduate of Occidental College and Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. Ms. Shockley is a member of the Los Angeles City Affordable Housing Commission.
