Deacons

The ministry of deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of compassion, witness, and service, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the friendless, the oppressed, those burdened by unjust policies or structures, or anyone in distress.  The position of deacon at First Presbyterian Church is an elected office voted on by the congregation.  Persons of spiritual character, honest repute, exemplary lives, brotherly and sisterly love, sincere compassion, and sound judgment should be chosen for this ministry.

The deacons of First Presbyterian Church are intimately connected to the lives of our congregants; they send birthday and anniversary cards, visit hospitalized members, and spend time with members who are homebound or living in a nursing home.  Our deacons not only care for members during difficult times in life, but also celebrate with members during joyous occasions.  Our deacons also join the pastors every month in taking the Lord’s Supper to our members who are homebound or living in a nursing home.  If you have a joy or concern that you’d like to share with your deacon, you may do so by clicking here.
