Open Enrollment is the procedure for a student to request to attend a high school within the Antelope Valley Union High School District other than the student’s school of residence. The deadline to submit Open Enrollment applications for the new 2018-19 school year is Friday, March 16, 2018.

Open Enrollment for the current 2017-18 school year is now closed with the exception of students new to the area. During February 2018, Open Enrollment information packets for the new 2018-19 school year will be mailed to the homes of current eighth-grade public school students, to the homes of returning high school students, and to the principals of charter and private junior high schools. Information packets may also be obtained from any high school or from the AVUHSD Student Services office or the AVUHSD website at www.avdistrict.org (Click drop-down menu “Schools” then click “Open Enrollment” then click “Open Enrollment Forms & Documents.”)

There will be a limited number of 2018-19 Open Enrollment spaces available at all of our schools: Antelope Valley High School, Eastside High School, Highland High School, Knight High School, Lancaster High School, Littlerock High School, Palmdale High School, and Quartz Hill High School. These include general Open Enrollment spaces as well as some spaces specific to particular academies: AVHS Green Enterprise Academy, EHS Biomedical Sciences Academy, HHS Law & Government Academy, KHS Digital Design & Engineering Academy, Lancaster HS Academy of Multimedia Programming and Engineering/LAMPE, Littlerock HS Agriculture & Environmental Science Academy, PHS Falcon Academy of Sustainable Technologies/FAST, and PHS Health Careers Academy. Also, qualified students entering grade eleven only may apply for the QHHS International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. (Honors/IB preparation classes for students in grades nine and ten are available at all schools; then qualified students may apply to transfer to the QHHS IB Diploma Program beginning with grade eleven.) Students interested in academies must also submit a separate academy application through the Academy Coordinator at the requested school. According to California Education Code 35160.5, Open Enrollment approvals will be on a lottery basis (random selection—NOT first come, first served). In addition to these spaces, all qualified sibling Open Enrollment applications to all schools will be approved.

Open Enrollment applications for the 2018-19 school year must be received by the deadline of Friday, March 16, 2018, in the AVUHSD Student Services office at 548 West Lancaster Boulevard, Suite #102, Lancaster, CA 93534-2571.   Applications may be submitted by mail, in person, or by fax to 661-949-6292. They may also be scanned and e-mailed to: rhickman@avhsd.org. According to Board Policy, late applications will not be accepted with the exception of students who have a sibling attending the school requested. Late applications from students who moved into the area after the deadline may be considered based on available space. Result letters will be mailed during April 2018. Thank you.
