Moberly Area Community College has offered free Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) classes for several decades. AEL provides a flexible classroom setting where adults who are at least 17 years of age have the opportunity to learn at their own pace. AEL offers individualized learning assistance for a variety of interests. Many students who participate in the AEL program are preparing for the High School Equivalency (HSE) test. Other students may receive instruction to brush up on their academic or everyday living skills. This program is free to the student and is funded by state and federal government.

The mission of the MACC AEL Program is to provide any citizen of this community and the surrounding area with access to free classes to obtain a High School Equivalency (HSE), improve basic skills, prepare for the workplace, or receive career counseling. It is also the goal of AEL to provide volunteer tutor assistance to any participating student whenever possible. The ultimate goal of the program is for students to successfully achieve educational and lifelong goals.
