Bridges

A bridge is a option for filling in the space created by a missing tooth. A bridge replaces the missing tooth, both functionally and cosmetically.

The choice of material depends on requirements for strength, wear, and esthetics. All bridges will look like a tooth and have the same color and shade as a tooth. A bridge uses adjacent teeth as anchors and span across the missing tooth area.

It is important that missing tooth be replaces as soon as possible for several reasons. If not treated the teeth surrounding the gap begin to shift inward, creating biting and esthetic problems.

A bridge can span one missing tooth to covering an area of several missing teeth so long as there are adequate anchor teeth. Bridges can also cover back teeth as well as front teeth.
