Senator Margolis has lived in Miami Dade County since 1960. She has four adult children, as well as her pride and joy, seven grandchildren.
Senator Margolis began her public service career in the Florida Legislature when elected to the House of Representatives in 1974 then re-elected for three additional terms. Her career in the Florida Senate began in 1980, where she was appointed to Chair the Finance, Tax and Claims Committee, and later the Appropriations Committee where she assisted in leading the state out of budgetary crisis.
Senator Margolis has received numerous awards for her leadership and dedication to the community. Statewide she has also received several awards from the Florida Chamber of Commerce including, the "Economic Development" award and the "Legislator of the Year" award. In addition, she has received the "Good Government" award from the Dade County League of Cities, and the "Glass Ceiling" award from the Florida Federation of Business and Professional Women. She was also honored by the Women's Hall of Fame.
