Alabama River Museum

Perched along the banks of the Alabama River, the Alabama River Museum exhibits fossils from the famous Claiborne Bluffs that show which creatures lived in our area 60 million years ago. American Indian artifacts and displays explain early life in the area. Many of the projectile points (arrowheads), pottery shards and other artifacts on exhibit were found on the site during the excavation of the Claiborne Lock and Dam. \

Riverboat traffic is also covered, including a small replica of the steamboat Nettie Quill. Exhibits include tools, clothing, weapons and an early dug-out canoe traditionally used by Native Americans in the area. Books and memorablia about Native Americans and the river are available in the gift shop.
