The Lake Almanor Story
In 1914 Great Western Power Company built a dam at Big Meadows, thus creating Lake Almanor. This allowed the Red River Lumber Company to establish the nearby town of Westwood, CA and enabled it to control Lake Almanor's shoreline for the following 36 years. This is an account of the many facets that led to the development of the Lake Almanor basin we know today.
