Radiology

Radiology is a specialty of medicine that uses an array of imaging technologies (such as x-ray, CT scans, ultrasound, MRI and nuclear medicine) to diagnose or treat disease. Interventional radiology is the performance of (usually minimally invasive) medical procedures with the guidance of imaging technologies. The techniques used in interventional radiology offer new treatment options for many conditions, allowing patients to be treated with less risk and shorter hospital stays. IR procedures can be used in almost every organ system, and the list of conditions that can be diagnosed and treated using image-guided techniques is continuously growing.

The diagnostic radiology screenings offered by Decatur Memorial Hospital are designed for patients who exhibit no symptoms (non-symptomatic patients). Any patients experiencing symptoms should consult their physician. To receive one or more of these screenings, physician orders are NOT required (except for bone mineral density screenings). However, because we are required to send the results to your doctor, you must provide us with the name of your primary care physician. Your results will also be mailed to you within one week of your screening. Except for mammograms and bone mineral density tests, payment is due at time of service. Screening exams cannot be billed to insurance.
