Plan Your Lost Coast Trip

The Lost Coast is a soul-stirring experience for seasoned hikers who appreciate the thrill of Nature’s challenges. Please read our Must-Do’s, check the shuttle schedule, and contact us if you have any questions.

1. Book your trail permit

You need one permit per group to stay overnight on the trail. The only charge is a non-refundable $6 processing fee.

2. Pack your bear canister

Each hiker must carry one bear can, which generally stores 3 days’ worth of food, toiletries, and garbage per hiker. You can also rent bear canisters from us for $20/trip (maximum 4 days).

3. Check the tide predictions chart.

Hiking during high tides can be fatal, even for very experienced hikers. There’s no phone reception on the trail, so you must check the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) tide prediction chart for each day of your trip before you go.

4. Don’t invite your dog unless they love tough terrain.

Dogs are allowed on the trail, but it’s not so fun for them. The sand and rocks can rub their paws pads raw, and jumping between boulders can make their nails bleed. If you do bring your buddy, bring dog boots for them to wear throughout the trip.
