Mental Health

Each year, one in four American adults experiences a mental illness, about 61.5 million people. Of those, about 13.6 million suffer from a serious mental illness such as schizophrenia, major depression or bipolar disorder. Mental illness is not just an adult problem, though, because an estimated 20% of youths age 13 to 18 experience sever mental disorders each year. For children between the ages of 8 and 15, about 13% suffer from mental illness. Mental illness costs America nearly $193 billion in lost earnings each year, and people suffering mental illness are more likely to also have serious medial problems, as well. River Region has a full range of services to help children, teens and adults who are coping with mental illness. From prevention to outpatient treatment to drop-in centers, the services are designed to meet the needs of every individual who needs treatment. Through outreach and education, River Region is improving the lives of those with mental illness and bringing information to the community about these critical services.
