Youth Protection Guidelines
The Kiwanis International Board approved some revisions to the current "Guidelines for Adults Working with Kiwanis Sponsored Programs" policy. One of the changes was renaming the policy "Youth Protection Guidelines." There were other significant revisions, including a policy requiring Kiwanis clubs who sponsor youth SLPs to have a clear criminal history background check completed for the Kiwanis advisors to those SLPs. However, due to the fact we need to build in a mechanism for clubs to share this information, the policies will not take effect until October 1, 2013. This will give us the time to create plans and educational resources on these guidelines. Thus, for now, the current guidelines are what we should share with and expect from Kiwanis clubs and members. We will work quickly to get resources and information into your hands so that you and our sponsoring clubs are prepared for these changes. A handout with the current policies is included.
