History Adventure Camp

Week-long activities for 2nd 6th graders to have fun as they explore Monroe County. Museum Members: $50 for 1st child, $40 for each additional child. Non-Members $65 each child.Meet at Old Courthouse Museum each day to begin the adventure. 8:00 am Noon, M-Th and 8:00 am 2:00 pm on Friday. Spaces are very limited, so please contact the Museum as soon as possible to reserve a spot.

Book Times Two with Roy Hoffman.

Fairhope, Alabama author Roy Hoffman will presentLiterary Inspiration: Where Stories Come Fromat 6:00 pm in the courtroom of the Old Courthouse Museum and then be available for autographing two of his books,Alabama AfternoonsandCome Landfall, which are being published in paperback.Come Landfallis a generation-spanning novel of love, war, and hurricanes, andAlabama Afternoonsis a collection of profiles of remarkable folks, famous and obscure. Hoffman is also the author ofBack Home: Journeys Through Mobile, and the novelsAlmost Family,set in civil rights era Alabama, andChicken Dreaming Corn,inspired by his grandparents sojourn from Eastern Europe to the Deep South, and praised by Harper Lee as a story of great appeal in prose lean and clean. Refreshments will be served following the autographing. The event is free to the public. Hoffmans books will be available for sale at the Birds Nest Gift Shop, located inside the Museum.6:00 pm 8:00 pm.

Capote & Other Voices Reading Club

For 2017, usually on the last Thursday of each month, we will be celebrating works by Southern women writers with a concentration on short stories. Selection for April is Tongues of Flame by Alabama writer Mary Ward Brown.12:00 noon brown bag lunch at Coastal Alabama Community College library. Capote & Other Voices is organized by Friends of the Monroe County Library, Monroeville Main Street and Monroe County Museum. Free and open to the public.

Cane Syrup Makin Day at Rikards Mill Historical Park

Enjoy cane syrup making and other old-time traditions with costumed re-enactors demonstrating lost ways of pioneer living. Admission: $5 Adults, $3 Children 12 & under. Rikards Mill Park, 5 miles N of Beatrice, AL. Food vendors on site. 9 am 2 pm.
