PHOENIX INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY’S ‘A BRUSH WITH VICTORY’ COMING TO WEST VALLEY ARTS HQ
One-Of-A-Kind Bill Patterson Gatorade Victory Lane Paintings Will Be On Display Sept. 29-Nov. 11

PHOENIX – Phoenix International Raceway‘s unique collection of paintings by acclaimed artist Bill Patterson will be on display at the West Valley Arts HQ as part of the track’s 50th Anniversary season. ‘A Brush With Victory’ will open Sept. 29 and features 31 of Patterson’s paintings depicting some of the most memorable moments at the famed one-mile oval.

At each NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at PIR, Patterson paints the finish of the race live in Gatorade Victory Lane, capturing the scene on canvas in time for the winning driver to sign the painting shortly after he emerges from his race car.

“We are excited to partner with the West Valley Arts Council and display this collection for the public at their Arts HQ gallery,” said PIR President Bryan R. Sperber. “Our 50th Anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate the great moments in PIR history, and Bill’s paintings do a great job of bringing those moments to life.”

To commemorate PIR’s Golden Anniversary fans can celebrate the historic moments captured in Patterson’s paintings, such as Alan Kulwicki’s 1988 win in the inaugural NASCAR Winston Cup Series race at PIR or Jeff Gordon’s 76th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series win, tying him with the legendary Dale Earnhardt. Some of the biggest and brightest stars in motorsport history have turned a lap at PIR over the last 50 years, and Patterson brings those moments to life through art.

“This unique partnership will bring much exposure and new audiences to the Arts HQ and show a more colorful and creative side to PIR,” said WVAC Executive Director Bernadette Mills. “We are thrilled to showcase these action paintings by Bill Patterson that capture colorful moments in local history at Phoenix International Raceway.”

West Valley Arts HQ consists of 2,500 square feet of gallery space - plus an outdoor courtyard - connected by a covered breezeway. These flexible spaces allow for a multitude of arts and cultural events, and can be adapted to meet various visual and performance requirements.

The West Valley Arts HQ is located at 16126 N. Civic Center Plaza, Surprise hours are Tuesday – Thursday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Friday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
