What is a Public Charter School?

We are a school that can operate and create curriculum independently, like a private school, but are publicly funded. This means that your child can get a private school education, but without having to pay any tuition!

Do you teach Common Core Standards?

Yes. However, our learners acquire deep understanding of these standards through Project Based Learning (see below). As a publicly funded school, our learners do participate in all state-mandated testing.

What is Project Based Learning?

Project Based Learning (PBL) allows children to learn curriculum through fun, meaningful, hands-on and collaborative experiences. Projects inspire the children to learn and apply the content standards in a real-world, relevant way. Through research, self-discovery, and teacher facilitation, learners inquire and seek out the information they need to accomplish the goals of the project. In addition to understanding, applying, and retaining the content, PBL helps develop vocational and leadership skills that will last a lifetime.

What are the district boundaries to attend iLEAD?

There are no location restrictions to attend iLEAD. Your child may live anywhere in Ohio and attend our school.

How big are the class sizes?

Each class will contain approximately 25 learners.

What are multi-age classes? Why are your classes multi-age?

Multi-age classes contain children from more than one grade level in the same class. There are many academic and social-emotional benefits to multi-age classes. It allows each child’s education to be more individualized, and he or she can get support in areas that they may otherwise not get in a single-grade level class. Our teachers are trained to group and differentiate based on needs and make sure each learner is growing as an individual. It is also important for children to interact with others that are both younger and older than them to build effective social skills.

How much homework will my child receive each night?

We believe that homework should be meaningful and child-driven. Our teachers typically do not send homework packets or “drill and kill” worksheets. Unfinished classwork and/or research or other preparation for projects are typically done at home. iLEAD values your family’s time at home, which is why there is deep learning done at school. Many children are inspired to do follow-up research and exploration on their own because they are deeply involved in the projects they are doing.

Do you offer Special Education Services?

Yes. We are required by law to serve all of the students in our student body. Special Education services will be offered to fulfill all IEPs and 504 plans.

How will my child’s learning be tracked during the year?

Learning progress will be monitored and reflected upon in several ways. Each child, along with his or her teacher and parents/guardians, will create an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP). This plan includes at least two academic goals and one social-emotional goal for the year. The child is the center of the goal-setting process, to ensure he or she is setting meaningful goals. An action plan for home and school are discussed and set into place, and the progress of the goals are discussed frequently.

iLEAD Springfield learners will also participate in several benchmark assessments throughout the year. Literacy, spelling, writing, and math assessments will be given so that the facilitator can effectively guide his or her instruction to meet the needs of each individual learner. These assessments can also drive creation of ILP goals.

Lastly, parents/guardians will receive reports of progress twice each year. These narrative-based reports will communicate to what extent curriculum and ILP goals are being met.

Each facilitator will keep an open line of communication with the parents/guardians in regards to learners’ progress throughout the year.

Is there parent involvement?

Yes! We believe that a successful school is a team effort. We encourage 3-4 hours per family of volunteer efforts, either in school or from home. If there is a way you can help the school and you are passionate about, let us know! Some examples of volunteer work can be: helping in the classroom, planning events and field trips, working the morning and afternoon valet, supervising the cafeteria, researching grants, etc.

What are the school hours?

We are looking to adopt the following hours:
Monday-Thursday 8:30-3:00
Friday 8:30-12:15

Will iLEAD offer transportation services?

Will before and after school care be available?
