A certificate is a savings product that earns interest on a lump sum for a fixed period of time. At HFCU our fixed periods or “terms”, range from 6 months to 60 months. Certificates differ from savings accounts because the money must remain untouched for the entirety of their term or risk penalty fees or lost interest. At the end of your certificate term, there is a 10 day period for you to take your money out or have it roll over into another certificate term.
